Creating a Volume Collection on an On-premises Array

Before you create a volume collection on your on-premises array, make sure you first create a replication store and then create a replication partner.

To replicate an on-premises HPE Nimble Storage array to the HPE Cloud Volumes portal, the array must have at least one volume collection that is configured to communicate with the replication store you have created on the HPE CV portal.

To create and configure a volume collection on your HPE Nimble Storage array, log on to the array and complete the following steps:

  1. Click Manage > Data Protection, and then click Volume Collections.
  2. Click the plus (+) sign. The Create Volume Collection window appears.
  3. Provide a name for the volume collection.
  4. In the Replication Partner field, select an HPE CV replication store from the drop-down list.
  5. Provide a snapshot schedule, and then click Next.
  6. Add your Available volumes to the Selected table and then click Create. The volume collection is created.

Note: Replicating encrypted volumes is only supported on arrays with NimbleOS version 5.0.6.x or higher. Also note that if you are replicating encrypted volumes, encryption must be enabled in both HPE CV and NimbleOS.

After you create the volume collection, click the replication partner. The replication partner status first appears as Alive-Not synchronized and data traffic value is Outbound, which indicates that data is set to flow from the array to the replication store on the HPE CV portal.

Once the replication process starts, the replication partner status changes to Alive, which indicates that data is replicating from the array to HPE CV based on the snapshot schedule.

Note: If you later reverse the replication direction so that data flows from the replication store to the array, the data traffic value will show as Inbound.

After the volumes have replicated from the on-premise array to HPE CV, you can view the replicated volumes on the HPE CV Portal.
